Shannon Smythe, T.C. Williams’ sole representative in the cross country state tournament, finished 32nd competing against runners from across Virginia on Saturday.
Smythe placed 26th in the AAA division after finishing the Great Meadows 5K with a time of 19:09. Combined with her other race results, the T.C. senior fell just short of breaking into the top-30 of state runners.
Local rival Lake Braddock fielded the race’s top female runner, Sophie Chase. She ran the course in 17:33, setting a new record along the way. On the boys side of the event, Annandale’s Ahmed Bile took home a first-place finish with a time of 15:16, five seconds faster than his closest rival, Chantilly’s Sean McGorty.
