An indoor climbing meet ended in a tie between Episcopal and the North Quaker Lane boarding school’s perennial rival, Woodberry Forest, a little more than a week ago.

During Episcopal’s third competition of the season, hosted by National Cathedral School, the Maroon went point for point with the Tigers, eventually settling for a 71-71 tie. Ted Ballenger, fast off an impressive showing at an Earthtreks event in Rockville, led his teammates with a 20-point performance.

Event organizers say the low scoring was a result of National Cathedral’s climbing wall, designed as a close imitation to the real thing, forcing the athletes to rely on cracks and contours to move upward.

The matchup was Episcopal’s first ever climbing duel with Woodberry Forest, though the teams will meet several more times throughout the season.
