(2-6) fell behind early, trailing 19-8 after one quarter, and couldnt catch up in the end despite a 20-point final period. The Lady Titans hit the road again for a Friday night showdown at Lake Braddock.
With one of the longest breaks of any team in the area, the Episcopal boys last week vaulted into the Washington Posts rankings at No. 19, joining the T.C. boys (No. 11) in the regional standings. The Maroon picked up another win Tuesday night to move to 5-1 after three players reached double figures in their 70-47 trouncing of St. Annes-Belfield. Episcopal got 26 points from Sadiq Abubakar and 19 points from David Kagulu-Kalema. They host Woodberry Forest this Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Episcopal girls (1-4) opened their new year on a down note Monday night, losing 47-20 to Sidwell Friends. They take to the court again tonight when they host cross-town rivals Bishop Ireton. The Cardinal girls (6-5) head into the Episcopal game on the heels of two straight losses, including a 53-41 defeat Tuesday night at Bishop McNamara. The Ireton boys, 4-5 heading into Wednesday nights game against McNamara, have a busy week ahead of them with games against St. Johns (Friday), Flint Hill (Saturday) and Paul VI (Tuesday).
The St. Stephens / St. Agnes boys jump-started the 2010 portion of their season with a high-profile home game last Saturday against regional No. 2 and national power Montrose Christian, losing 79-50 against a team with several sure-fire Division I college prospects, including Duke-bound Josh Hairston. They suit up again Saturday against Holy Child on the road, while the Saints girls squad (1-5) hopes to get back on track that same night at home, against the same opponent.
