Last week probably wasn’t the week that the EPISCOPAL boys team was looking for after shooting up to No. 14 in theWashington Post’sregional rankings with a 7-1 record. On Friday, the Maroon fell 66-50 at home to No. 11 Georgetown Prep and then lost a 49-47 nail-biter Tuesday night against St. Albans. They now sit at 7-3 on the season, but still in a much different position from the girls side, which dropped to 1-8 after Saturday’s loss to Collegiate.
On Tuesday night, the T.C. WILLIAMS girls continued their work to get back on track with a 60-48 win against West Potomac, paced by 16 points from Charnelle Huggins and another 15 points from Jasmine Norman. Now 5-9, the Titans continue their Patriot District slate with a rematch against West Springfield on Friday night.
At ST. STEPHEN’S / ST. AGNES, the boys team kept with its win-one-lose-one sort of season with a loss Friday night to Landon and rebounding nicely the next day with 71-46 rout at home against Flint Hill. Now 7-6, the boys have won three of their last four games going into Tuesday night’s rivalry game against Episcopal. The St. Stephen’s girls team is now 1-10 on the season going into their game Friday against Notre Dame Academy.
Tuesday night’s matchups with St. Mary’s Ryken were not kind to the boys and girls of BISHOP IRETON. The boys, now 5-10 for the year, lost 79-67 at home, while the girls suffered an 81-38 road defeat. Things will get no easier for the boys this week as they face perennial power Gonzaga Friday night and area No. 1 DeMatha on Tuesday. The Lady Cardinals face a full plate this week with four games in five days, including one against No. 6 Holy Cross, as they try to get over .500 on the season.
