Despite a fast start, Episcopal senior Shantell Bingham settled for a second-place finish to top ranked Lateisha Philson in the 55-meter hurdle at the Eastern States Track Championship.
Bingham came away with the silver after Philson caught up to the swift-footed Maroon runner and took the first-place prize by a margin of .03 seconds. Philson, a student at Benjamin Cardoza, is ranked first in the nation in the 55-meter hurdles.
Still, the New York City meet was Binghams first chance of the season to take on the countrys best high school track and field athletes. She returned to Alexandria holding the third-best time in the United States, a new personal best and a new school record of 7.94 seconds.
Bingham heads to the New Balance Indoor Nationals March 11-13.
