After dropping five consecutive games, the T.C. Williams Titans took a step in the right direction Saturday, narrowly beating a 4-3 West Springfield squad on the road.

Though they enjoyed an early lead, the Spartans couldn’t hold off the Titans, which came roaring back in the second quarter with two rushing touchdowns. Senior running back Za’Quan Summers made his way into the end zone first on a 16-yard run.

Summers rushed for 163 yards on the day, forming the backbone of T.C.’s run game, which racked up 215 yards on 47 attempts. Teammate Dealo Robertson, a junior, chewed up 46 yards on 9 carries.

Junior quarterback Alec Grosser, who has struggled in the passing game, threw for just 25 yards on 10 attempts.

The 2-5 Titans — 1-3 in Patriot District play — head to Annandale on Friday to face a 1-6 Atoms squad reeling from a 14-7 loss to W.T. Woodson. Players take to the field at 7:30 p.m.
