T.C. crew celebrates first place win at Ted Pheonix Regatta

The T.C. Williams girls freshman 8 crew team captured first place at the Ted Phoenix Regatta Saturday, clinching the Ted Phoenix Trophy while remaining undefeated.

The Lady Titans team as a whole also earned the distinction of being the fastest boat in Virginia, capturing a silver and two bronze medals in three other races throughout the event, which was held at the Occoquan Reservoir. Crossing the finish line with a time of 5:17.10, the team led by Coach Patrick Marquardt, was more than four seconds faster than Yorktown, who took second place.

Bringing home the silver medal was the T.C. Williams girls fourth 8, who finished their race with in 6:00.83. The T.C. Williams girls novice 8 and third 8 captured bronze medals, with times of 5:48.12 and 5:37.82, respectively.

The T.C. Williams freshman and novice boys also graced the waters at the regatta, though the teams failed to bring home medals. The Boys novice 4 landed in fourth place , and the boys novice 8 “A” boat just missed the pace needed to qualify for the finals heat.

Next, T.C. Williams’ crew team heads back to Occoquan for the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship for Upper Boats on May 11.
