A strong second-half performance was enough for Woodberry Forest to upend Episcopal in the Maroon’s final gridiron battle of the season.

Though the Tigers eventually celebrated a 21-12 win, the Maroon kept the game tight early on. Woodberry Forest scored in the first quarter on a one-yard run, but the Maroon responded with a second-quarter touchdown of their own, though a missed extra-point kick gave Woodberry Forest a narrow edge heading into halftime.

Leading by a single point, the Tigers pulled away with a third-quarter touchdown and then padded their lead with an end-zone destined pass in the fourth. While Episcopal’s Johnny Bond caught a 70-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin de Butts — the following two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful — it wasn’t enough to overcome the Tigers.

The season-ending defeat caps off a year that saw the Maroon go just 3-6 overall, 2-2 in conference play.
