Virginia Championship Wrestling will return to Alexandria and the Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center on Nov. 9, featuring the debut of former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar “The Wanted Man” Nic Nemeth. The wrestler formerly known as Dolph Ziggler was highly successful in WWE, winning the World Heavyweight Championship twice, the Intercontinental Championship six times and recording four Tag Team Championship reigns.
Nemeth currently competes in independent companies and Total Nonstop Action, where he reigns as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. His scheduled VCW match against Rex Lawless will mark his first independent wrestling match in Virginia and will also give fans the opportunity for a meet and greet.
The full show features six matches in total. “The Pectoral Poseidon” most recently defeated three-time Virginia Heavyweight Champion “Mr. Xcellence” Brandon Scott at VCW Grave Conflict on Oct. 12. In July, he recorded nine eliminations and was the runner-up in the Liberty Lottery match.
Since January, Nemeth has become the second IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, won the Mega Campeonato AAA and captured the WSW World Heavyweight Championship. He most recently retained his TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Joe Hendry at Bound For Glory, TNA’s largest grossing live event of the year. With Nemeth in the midst of a career renaissance and Lawless just beginning a warpath of dominance, their match should be the highlight of the event.
The legacy of the late Jermaine “Dirty Money” Robinson will be celebrated through the first Dirty Money Cup. The tournament will feature eight entrants that shared a history with Robinson. The DMC has an unorthodox structure: four tag teams have been created with teammates drawn at random.
In Alexandria, two separate tag team matches will take place with the winners competing in a Fatal FourWay match that same night. The winner of the Fatal FourWay will then be presented the DMC chain by former Virginia Heavyweight Champion Logan Easton Laroux, a trophy made to exemplify Robinson’s style, charisma and strength.
Erica Leigh will make her return to VCW when she faces Hyena Hera in Alexandria. Leigh has found plenty of success within the Commonwealth, notably winning the 2023 Liberty Lottery and continuing to gain momentum in the following months. She was last seen with VCW in April and has found success in Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling in the meantime. Her absence has left space for other competitors, and Hyena Hera currently holds a winning streak in VCW by beating her opponents through any means necessary. Fans are waiting to see if Leigh can overcome Hera’s ruthless tactics for victory.
VCW officials created a star-studded six-man tag team match in anticipation of Nov. 9. The new Virginia Heavyweight Champion Devantes will team-up with The Boar and the 2024 Liberty Lottery winner Tim Spriggs to face VCW Liberty Champion Saul Esparza and VCW Tag Team Champions Delinquents. Tensions are high with every champion of VCW in one match.
Esparza, Mikey Banker, and Josh Fuller are a trio of dangerous opponents. With Spriggs’ Liberty Lottery victory, he earned a championship match of his choosing. “Mush Master” already announced that he would be using his opportunity to face the Virginia Heavyweight Champion. However, The Boar never received his rematch for that championship when he lost it last November. Can these men put aside their differences to humble the aforemen- tioned trio?
Tickets for the event and the meet and greet with Nic Nemeth are on sale at vcwprowrestling.com and at the door. The Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center is located at 25 W. Reed Ave., Alexandria, 22305. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with bell time at 7:30 p.m.
