The Alexandria City School Board voted Thursday (February 19) to hire Carla Carter as the new assistant principal at James K. Polk Elementary School.
The decision means a change in title for Carter, but not a change in location for the educator who took up her new post Monday, leaving her former position as the schools Performance Evaluation Program (PEP) Specialist, in which she conducted teacher evaluations.
Mrs. Carters extensive instructional knowledge has guided us toward teaching excellence, said Polk Principal Michael Brown. As an assistant principal, she will continue to share her expertise and genuine love of teaching and learning with our students and staff.
Carter has been an employee of ACPS for a dozen years, during which time she was a classroom teacher as well as PEP specialist and now an administrator.
Were very, very excited about her coming into this particular role, said Deputy Superintendent Cathy David during the February 19 meeting.
