Pretty good for just a little printer on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, Virginia, said Daniel Fannon about the announcement that Fannon Fine Printing had won their third Benny Award. The company was founded in 1969 by Daniels father, the late James H. Fannon Jr., as a forms printer and has since evolved into a state of the art craftsman-oriented printer. Mary Ellis Fannon was very pleased to have the company recognized by the printing industry. We are very good at what we do and it is a pretty high honor to be recognized for all our hard work, she said.

Daniel and his mother Mary Ells, who started the business with her late husband, will accept two awards for Best Business and Annual Reports for Printers with 20 Employees or Less at the Graphic Expo in Chicago at the end of October.

More than 4.200 entries from around the world were submitted for consideration for the awards. Michael Makin, president of the Printing Industry of America and the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation said, Their Benny Awards are irrefutable evidence of their graphic communications excellence.

The two awards recognized an annual report Fannon Fine Printing prepared for the National Mediation Board and for the book, We Are The Titans: a Profile of Diversity at One American High School. The T.C. Williams book was a project by students from T.C. Williams. The project is featured on the web site www.whatkidscando.org and at www.wearethetitans.com. The book is available at the Dairy Godmother, St. Elmos Coffee Pub, and A Show of Hands in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.

Taki Sidley, a photography and documentary teacher at T.C. Williams, worked with the students in the production of the book.  When told that Fannon Printing had won a Benny Award for We Are the Titans, he was pleased. I think its great, he said. I had met Mary Ellis and really liked her. She had done some other projects for us, some pro bono and she was excited about the project.

Mary Ellis said that they are dedicated to creating long-lasting relationships with their customers and Sidley agrees. We were excited that the kids got to actually watch the book being printed, he said. Another book has been produced by the T.C. Williams photography program entitled Titan of a Teacher: A Photo Documentary of Outstanding Teachers in One Public School System, which is also printed by Fannon Fine Printing.
