Local and national powers open LAX season

Alexandria is home to two nationally ranked girls lacrosse programs and after the two met Tuesday, St. Stephens and St. Agnes emerged victorious. The 18-5 win over Bishop Ireton opens up the regular season for the two squads. Heading into the 2011 campaign, EPSN Rise ranked SSSAS No. 6 in the country while Ireton was locked in at No. 26.
    
The Alexandria academies are two of five ranked Virginia schools; St. Annes Belfield in Charlottesville, James Madison in Vienna and Collegiate in Richmond round out the talented group.
    
The Saints face Bryn Mawr at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, while the Cardinals head to Flint Hill School at 4 p.m., Friday.
