Megan Coyle, a T.C. Williams graduate and a more recent graduate of Elon University, currently has a work of art hanging in the Smithsonian’s Ripley Center. 

Last summer, Megan worked as an intern at the National Portrait Gallery.  It was there that she heard about a juried exhibition that was open to Smithsonian employees, and for the first time it was open to interns and volunteers.  She submitted one of her collage portraits, and a couple months later she heard that she was accepted into the exhibition, “Artists at Work: The Smithsonian Community Art Show 2008.”

The exhibition was installed on March 20, and was expected to remain in the Ripley Center for several months.  However, it has been extended until July 27. The exhibition features the work of Smithsonian employees, interns, and volunteers, and the work consists of a variety of media, including color pencil, photography, mixed media illustrations, and sculpture.

For Megan, this has been a big step for her as an artisthaving her work on display in such a public area.  Before, most of the exhibitions her artwork appeared around Elon’s campus.
