Its been a topic of discussion since the mid-1990s, and officials are once again bringing up the possibility of adding a Metrorail station at Potomac Yard.

The city will hold a meeting of the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station Feasibility Work Group at City Hall
Thursday evening, bringing together officials from Metro and the city, which has an additional Potomac Yard Planning Advisory Group that deals with all manner of developments in the area.

The two groups were created in October 2008, though Potomac Yard has been in the process of redeveloping for more than 10 years.

The potential station would be located on the Blue and Yellow Lines between the existing Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road stations.

While estimates in the fall had the price tag at around $100 million, it could be as high as $150 million if and when it occurs, according to planners. How the price tag would be shared is still up in the air.

Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille told radio station WTOP Tuesday that the city is ready for a station at Potomac Yard and that it is in Alexandrias best interest to explore the possibility.

This is all at the very beginning stages, and it may not happen until five or 10 years down the road, but we want to make sure that we dont miss our chance, Euille said.
