Responding to overwhelming visitor demand, Mount Vernon officials have decided to extend their popular National Treasure tours through October 31.

The National Treasure Tour combines Hollywood and history, giving visitors stories about the filming of the 2007 mobie “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” and also information on how the behind-the-scenes locations were used during George Washington’s time.

Included in the hour-long walking tour is the Mansion’s basement and cornerstone, the setting for a pivotal scene in the movie. The tour is limited to 25 visitors per time slot, and takes place at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. and costs $5 per tour in addition to the Estate’s admission tag.

There are no advance reservations for individual tickets.  Mount Vernon officials warn that this is an extensive walking tour that covers steep steps in the Mansion and a walk down a long hill to the wharf.
